Support private consultants and clinics from the comfort of your home, with no weekend or bank holiday work. Build your own client list and get matched with practices that need your skills.
I’m new to Lila’s Desk, but my experience has been very positive. I feel welcomed, which means a lot to me. The team is always supportive and happy to answer questions. I’ve learned from experienced healthcare professionals and gained valuable experience in supporting a doctor. The platform is user-friendly, and the processes are clear and transparent. I’m excited about future opportunities!
Hi, I’m Carolina, a mum who joined Lila’s Desk in January 2025 to build a new career while staying close to my children. I’ve received opportunities to support cardiologists, a haematologist and a neurophysiologist. The platform offers flexibility, professional development, income in pounds and a supportive team, allowing me to work remotely while contributing to healthcare professionals’ daily work.
Most medical secretary jobs are advertised as office roles in hospitals or GP surgeries. Private practice has changed: many consultants now prefer an experienced secretary who works remotely, is organised and knows their systems.
Lila’s Desk connects those practices with medical secretaries, receptionists and clinical PAs across the UK. Our assistants support consultants in specialties such as cardiology, respiratory medicine and gastroenterology, including at major London private hospitals.
Handling patient emails and phone enquiries in the practice’s name.
Getting clinic lists, patient notes and paperwork ready before each session.
Invoicing patients and insurers, chasing payments and keeping accounts up to date.
Typing clinic letters and correspondence for private consultants.Handling patient emails and phone enquiries in the practice’s name.
Booking, rescheduling and confirming follow-up appointments and procedures.
Actioning everything that comes out of a clinic, from referrals and test requests to chasing results.
Take one-off tasks or a few hours a week with several clients, all from home and with no weekend or bank holiday work. Most practices do not need full-time support, so part-time medical secretary jobs are the norm here.
Clients can view your skills, experience and hourly rate before selecting a secretary. If you bid on a task, the consultant may contact you through the in-app chat to ask additional questions, so be prepared to respond promptly.
Private medical secretary jobs with consultants who want a named, reliable secretary, not a temp. Many virtual assistant jobs in the UK are general admin for any business. Here you use your healthcare experience every day.
An Implementation Manager supports you through onboarding with each new client, and our team is on hand by email and group chat whenever you need help.
Our dedicated admin team is experienced in every part of the process and ensures you are fully supported.

Lila's Desk gives you access to a range of skilled professionals who can help you run your private practice or clinic: medical secretaries, PAs, billing managers, and Carebit and Semble implementation managers. Our medical secretaries handle patient emails and phone enquiries, clinic preparation, clinic letters, booking follow-ups and procedures, and post-clinic tasks.
For most ongoing tasks, Lila's Desk offers a fully inclusive hourly rate of between £18 and £23, depending on the nature of the assignment. You see the rate before you hire. You choose a monthly cap on hours and pay in advance, so there are no surprise bills.
Not quite. Our medical secretaries are trained to support a practice and its patients: handling patient emails and phone enquiries, clinic preparation, clinic letters, booking follow-ups and procedures, and actioning post-clinic tasks. Some also cover billing, and we have dedicated billing administrators too. A PA provides broader business and personal support to one person, such as an executive, entrepreneur or small business owner.
Every verified assistant is ID-verified, holds a DBS check or police clearance certificate and completes CPD-accredited GDPR training. They work inside your own systems with the access you give them, and you can remove that access at any time.
Yes. You can book an assistant for a one-off task, a few hours a week or ongoing daily support.
AI tools can take simple bookings, but patients with complex or urgent needs still want a person. A human receptionist also handles letters, billing and insurer queries that AI cannot.
You are welcome to provide your own practice email address for your dedicated secretary to use. Alternatively, we can create a professional email address for your assistant free of charge under the Lila's Desk domain. For example, we could set up an email address such as drsurname.pa@lilasdesk.co.uk for your dedicated assistant. Each Lila's Desk secretary will also provide a direct UK landline number that patients, hospitals and insurers can use to contact them directly on your behalf.
If you are unsure how many hours of support you will require, we recommend setting an initial limit of one hour per expected patient appointment. For example, if you anticipate seeing 10 patients in a clinic, you may wish to request 10 hours of support. This estimate can be adjusted at any time as your practice grows and your secretary becomes familiar with your processes and requirements.
